Sikh fresco art on the walls of dying monuments across Pakistan speak volumes about the past glory of the region; a highly evolved and respectful society, where women were no less than men!
A woman leads a hunt in this 19th century fresco on a dilapidated gurdwara wall in central Punjab (Okara, Pakistan).
The western concept of women’s liberation only took seed after World War 1 in the 20th century, while as early as the 15th century, Nanak had empowered the status of women, proclaiming
FROM WOMAN, MAN IS BORN, CONCEIVED AND TO HER HE MARRIES.
WITH WOMAN, FRIENDSHIP DEVELOPS, GENERATIONS EVOLVE.
TO HER HE IS BOUND, SEEKING COMPANIONSHIP.
WHY CONSIDER WOMAN INFERIOR, FROM WHOM, KINGS ARE BORN?
