At Gujranwala in Pakistan, the young students looked dazed as I peeked into their classroom. Their startled expression revealed that they had never seen a Sikh.
The hall in which they were being taught, was once a gurdwara of the Sikh community. Till 1947, it is here that the Sikhs would sit to gather spiritual wisdom to be able to face the worldly affairs and today it is the youth of Pakistan that sit here to gather worldly wisdom!
While emotional at the loss due to partition, I felt at peace that the asset was being put to good use! The circle of life, no start or end, seemed to be completing itself here.
I was reminded of Kabir’s words, kabira jaha gyan teh dharam hai
“Where there is spiritual wisdom, there is righteousness”
